Edscha TS is one of the companies that can look back on many years of successful cooperation with the railway company "Deutsche Bahn". Successful also, because the railway company has a whole range of very special demands, which only Edscha TS with its experience was able to fulfil. For example, the old Eanos wagons were to be converted. Many details had to be considered to enable a better use of the E-wagons. For example, the optimised canopy structure leads to more stability and better drainage. Further advantages are offered by the new concept for the end carriage. All this based on the OpenBox system from Edscha TS. With this recycling of the wagons, Edscha TS is at the same time setting an example for more sustainability and environmental protection.
High quality and highly profitable
Thanks to the Edscha TS innovation, the OpenBox Railway cover, which weighs only approx. 300 kg (on a length of 10 m) and for which a patent has been applied for, enables excellent planning. Every E-wagon can now be opened safely and comfortably from the side from below in a short time. Due to the bolted and floating suspension of the rails, retrofitting is easy and allows for deformations of up to approx. 60 mm. The canopy has been designed according to the criteria for combined traffic according to EN 283 / UIC 592 and has passed the static tests for tunnel encounter traffic. The TÜV confirms that the classification as an E-wagon is maintained even with a retrofitted soft top.
Perfect functionality
So how does OpenBox Railway work? Quite simply: like an accordion that is attached to the top of the wagon roof with a special fastening. The system is designed as a one-person solution and can be easily retracted or extended by just one worker without any great effort. The design of the roof ensures that water runs off easily when it rains, and the structure is not exposed to corrosion.

The bottom line is that Edscha OpenBox Railway is a small revolution for handling rail transports quickly, safely and, above all, economically.
