When things go well, many things go better!

How versatile can a truck roof rack be?

It's called an aluminum strap or an aluminum tree, an outer tree or a top strap: the Edscha TS multifunctional CS carrier has quite different names, either regionally or locally. Yet it has only one goal in mind: to ensure that a curtain-sider tarpaulin and side curtain can be opened and closed smoothly and without any problems. Curtain-siders, by the way, are the sliding tops where the truck can be loaded and unloaded from the side and independently from the top. This brings enormous advantages in many logistics areas and has not least led to the fact that certain sectors, such as the automotive industry, use very individual solutions in conjunction with a CS tarpaulin. In addition to the range of applications and the variety of functions, the stability of the soft top structure has also changed significantly. Whereas in the past it was the steel structure that was primarily used, today it is the multifunctional roof rack made of aluminum. Although it radiates a certain "lightness," it has to withstand a lot at the same time. This is because the side curtains and sliders as well as the sliding roof have to be able to roll or slide over it.

Basis for success

The roof rack construction is the "basis for business", so to speak. For example, it has a significant influence on the load volume and the width of the load openings. It must also ensure vehicle stability and the safety of the roof and side curtains. And, of course, it must allow the roof and side curtain to be opened and closed smoothly and flexibly in day-to-day operations. The aluminum construction also results in lower weight. At the same time, it can bear higher loads. CS canopies from Edscha TS, such as CS-Profi, CS-Hybrid, CS-Eco, Compact, but also the Sesam Slimliner, Sesam Slimliner Small, as well as the Sesam Flatliner therefore stand for high efficiency.

A look at the Edscha TS product range for CS convertible tops shows what essentially distinguishes the individual systems. The first multifunctional roof rack used in large-scale production was the Universal-Classic, which can be used flexibly for different performance requirements. It offers a good compromise between lateral load-through height, good width of the roof opening, and smooth-running curtain, roof and sliding functions. A further development is the all-round genius: the universal roof rack. It has the advantage that the side curtain is no longer hooked in from below, but from the side. The stanchion can therefore be straight, so that the loading width under the carrier increases. In addition, the curtain is straight, wear is less and all modern tops fit. For the high-end soft top CS-Profi, which is very popular in steel logistics, this roof rack is a prerequisite. For the Edscha TS soft tops CS-Hybrid and the SESAM CS-Slimliner there is a standard roof rack which allows a load in pallet width. I.e. 2430 mm loading width up to under the roof crossbars. With a normal box load, this allows an additional loading height of approx. 100 mm. The standard roof rack is particularly suitable for CS hybrid roofs.

When the load volume grows

The demand for loading volume is particularly high in the automotive sector. This is due to the use of mesh pallets, which have a width of 2480 mm and require particularly large clear heights of up to 3 m. This means that the outside area may only be 35 mm wide. For this, the outer area must then be only 35 mm wide as well as high. The Edscha TS solution for this application is the volume roof rack. An additional integrated lifting device helps to raise the roof by around 300 mm during loading and unloading. This works perfectly, but requires additional cost due to the installation of the lifting device. For logistics companies in the automotive sector, however, it still pays off.

Roof rack variety

Edscha TS has the right roof rack for almost every soft top system - adapted to the desired application. The narrow Sesam Flatliner roof rack, for example, allows a very high lateral through-loading without lifting equipment. The Flatliner is particularly popular for volume-optimized center-axle trailers up to 10 m in length. Finally, the Slimliner Small roof rack enables a particularly light and compact "small" version of the SESAM Slimliner for light vehicles up to 8 m in JIT use.

Compact is compact

Last but not least, the version of the Edscha TS Compact roof rack offers some special features. For example, all functions such as moving the roof, moving the curtain or moving the stanchion are possible in the very small component. Compact is therefore particularly suitable for vehicles in distribution transport, where a low dead weight and a compact design are crucial for successful use up to 8 m.
