Clever tarpaulin for clever company

Few names are as associated with the German construction and raw materials industry as that of Günter Papenburg. His company, Günter Papenburg AG, is one of the biggest in the industry. Like many unusual entrepreneurial careers, Papenburg's started very small. It began with the purchase of an old Krupp truck, which he bought for 2000 marks and with which he set up his own haulage business in 1963 in Negenborn, a district of Wedemark in Lower Saxony. Today, around 3500 employees work for Papenburg. The widely ramified company comprises about 40 subsidiaries and operating units. In 1977 he went into civil engineering, in 1986 he joined Hanomag, and after reunification he expanded on a grand scale in the East. What few people know: With his ideas, Papenburg ultimately also changed the face of Hanover. For the Expo, he built today's Tui Arena, which he also owns. With his support, the Hannover Scorpions became German ice hockey champions here. He is currently investing in Wasserstadt Limmer, the city's most ambitious housing project. Back to Negenborn, where it all began and where today Thomas Witte is the branch manager responsible for logistics, bulk goods and bitumen transport.

Question:

Mr Witte, over the years the small fleet company has become a group of many different companies. Which areas are these?

T. Witte:

Yes, our company is certainly very diversely positioned, but always moves in the area of construction services and raw materials. In our own gravel plants and operating facilities we offer a wide range of gravel and sand products as well as hard stones. Recycling products and dumping are also part of the overall spectrum of our operating sites. All materials can be purchased directly from the individual plants or delivered to any construction site by our own haulage company. Our senior boss is still very active.

Question:

And what has become of the old Krupp truck?

T. Witte:

What happened to the old Krupp truck? It probably doesn't exist any more. But it has had many modern and efficient successors. Whether transporting bulk goods, building materials, bitumen or concrete products, in silo, crane, tarpaulin or long-distance transport, as well as construction machinery and heavy-duty transports - our "yellow" fleet with more than 600 trucks and 770 drivers is a competent partner for our customers. The forwarding division is active in the provision of logistical services both for our customers and clients, but also as an internal service provider for the companies associated in the Günter Papenburg Group. We are the link between raw and building material operations and are used to supply construction measures and in construction site traffic.

Question:

And what about in the area of bulk goods and building materials transport?

T. Witte

We use a large number of modern vehicles for the transport of bulk goods and other building materials. Among others, we have semi-trailers, 3- and 4-axle trucks as well as trailer trucks. By the way, our drivers are regularly trained by our own specialist staff. We tested for a long time and decided on the TipperRoof, which makes our daily work much easier and safer.

Question:

What was decisive for the decision in favour of the TipperRoof from Edscha TS?

T. Witte:

The answer here is very simple. The "TipperRoof concept" is solid and reliable, as well as easy to work with and much faster to operate than, for example, a normal roller tarpaulin or other tarpaulin systems. Especially in the area of transporting bulk goods and building materials, TipperRoof gives us the security of being able to meet even the most individual transport requirements. Question:

If reliability and punctuality are top priorities for a smooth cooperation with your customers: What part does a roofing solution like TipperRoof play in this?

T. Witte:

First of all, there is the maxim that the goods to be transported must be in the right place at the right time. To ensure that this is the case, the roof of the tipper is one of the most important parts. This includes, among other things: The hood must be of quality. Both in terms of materials, but also in terms of functional reliability. Only then can it fulfil its tasks during loading and unloading. I can't use a tarpaulin that jams or fails regularly. TipperRoof is very robust in my experience.

Question:

Now TipperRoof is available in a crank version that has to be operated by hand and in an electric version where a motor does the manual work. What are your experiences?

T. Witte:

The beauty of TipperRoof is its modular design. Not only can the hood be adapted to almost any trough, but the system itself can be retrofitted from a crank solution to a motor solution. In this respect, one is very flexible right from the start. In any case, it seems important to me that TipperRoof, in whatever version, guarantees our drivers comfortable, safe and problem-free working. The drivers simply have less stress.

Question:

What does "less stress" mean?

T. Witte:

The crank version of TipperRoof, for example, can be operated comfortably and very easily from the ground. That alone brings more working safety and time savings. The possibility of tilting the roof when it is closed is also a significant advantage. In short: For the driver, the work process is faster, safer and extremely comfortable. He can concentrate more on the essential things. Currently, TipperRoof from Edscha TS is the tarpaulin system for dump trucks par excellence.

Question:

So TipperRoof is a worthwhile investment if you look at it from that angle?

T. Witte:

Yes, certainly! The advantages of a TipperRoof deck certainly pay off in euros and cents. For example, the point in time at which the "TipperRoof" investment has "paid off" is reached in a relatively short time. In the sum of all factors, it is above all the high quality and the solid construction that contribute to this, in addition to the advantages in use. Certainly not least because the innovative traditional German brand Edscha TS is behind it.
