Edscha Trailer Systems, Europe’s market and technology leader for sliding truck roofs, is tireless in its creative drive. After adapting its own Edscha TS sliding roof concept TipperRoof for modern dumper vehicles all trailers with fixed wall structures can now be fitted with a sliding roof.
For this, the company has stayed true to its work philosophy of ‘fast, safe, robust’ and is setting another milestone in the manufacture of roofs with the OpenBox solution, not only protecting the cargo from the effects of the weather, which can lead to loss of cargo or weight increases, but also saving fuel at the same time. This benefits the environment and operating costs. Tests in the wind tunnel have shown that trailers with the closed OpenBox sliding roof are substantially more aerodynamic, thus offering less wind resistance and saving fuel. This is particularly true when unloaded.
The new OpenBox roof can be closed and opened quickly and safely by the driver from the ground. The robust structure stays smooth and sealed, even with bulges of up to +/- 30 mm. The new Edscha TS roof changes neither the dimensions nor the load volume of the structure. If repairs are necessary then the service-friendly modular structure, comprising steel rails and exchangeable segments, ensures minimum downtime. The heart of the structure is the floating suspension of the steel rail system, which has been registered for patent approval and is also used on freight cars.
The new Edscha TS OpenBox roof was developed primarily for sliding floor structures but is also suitable for any other structure where the fixed walls need to be as high as possible for maximum load volume.
